I too have been surprised to see that the map I considered 'complete' was
anything but!

I'll be in Bristol tomorrow and perhaps I will be able to do a bit of mapping.
Before visiting an area I normally do a preparatory pass of armchair mapping
using the OS Locator comparison, the Street View tiles, and perhaps the Keep
Right data checker.  That gets the quick wins (like straightforwardly missing
street names) and gives an idea of the best places to survey.  So I might
start filling in some of those 37% tonight.
