So, I recently moved from Bath to Bristol. Looking at the map, I thought
Bristol was relatively complete. Last night I ran a few passes over Bristol
using oslVosm, and here's a shocker (?):
37% of the roads in OS Locator do not appear in OSM.
Is this representative of other similar sized cities/towns?
It seems to be:<http://www.itoworld.com/product/data/osm_analysis/summary>
I too have been surprised to see that the map I considered 'complete' was
anything but!
That link sends me back to the homepage & I'm unable to find the summary
page. Do you have another link?
Speaking of Bristol specifically much of the remaining 37% is in the
less salubrious areas of the city & before the OS data release the only
way to to collate that data was to walk it.
On two previous occasions I've been menacingly threatened by the locals;
one accusing me of being an under-cover cop, I assume because I was
carrying my GPS in my hand & probably looked like a walky-talky to the
uninitiated.
I thought it would be advantageous to me to make a speedy exit rather
than try to explain my purpose.
With the new data it will be good to finally see Bristol streets filled
in a bit more. However that won't make it complete - there will still be
too many large areas of residential grey.
Cheers
Dave F.
