i have heard and read this argument before. It may have held some water in
the past, but not today. For one thing, most of us already have a computer,
and have likely already paid for a screen reader, or had one purchased for
them. So that savings that would come from buying the Mac does not apply.
Also, today we have a free screen reader available in NVDA. I replaced a
computer in 2012, and again this year. In both instances I considered a Mac,
but in both instances when I did the math, it came out the same. I would be
spending double to get a Mac with the same specs as a Windows machine that
would be to my liking. Even a Mac Mini with decent specs would run me almost
$1200.
Also, i have read that Apple's development of Voiceover for the Mac has been
lagging over the last few years, and many who switch to the Mac find that
they either have to also maintain a Windows PC for some tasks, or they have
to install Windows on their Mac and either run a dual boot system or run
Windows under a virtual machine. Also, if, like me, you have large amounts
of data stored on external hard drives that have been formatted under
Windows, you will not be able to transfer files to and from those devices
with your Mac, thus again having to maintain another windows machine or
running Windows on your Mac.
So i again purchased a Windows PC.

Andy
