Let me say this: The standard JAWS license allows 3 installs.
So, you would use all your allotted installs with the scenario you presented. Now, let me further clarify something, though. If you have to re-install the OS, and your locking code remains the same, I think it will not count against you when you re-install. It is even possible to request resets of your install count. Don’t know what their criteria are for this going through, but, it can be done. It would be nice if you could de-activate an install manually, if you get a new computer or something like that. It is a hassle, but, this is becoming more of a reality, not just with assistive technology, but, even mainstream stuff like MS Office. If you buy a copy of Office, it only works on the computer you first set it up on. Office 365, on the other hand, will allow you to deactivate an install if you decide to stop using a particular computer. At least, this is the way the $9.95 subscription works, since it allows you 5 installs. The reason I ask is that I use three computers - a virtual machine on a MacBook Pro, my desktop, and a new laptop. Under Window-Eyes, as long as we adhered to their licensing requirements, we could have as many installs as we needed. With the new JAWS, that may not be the case. In that instance, I have issues about migrating. Worse, still, if a computer crashes, and we've gone through our allotted installs, I will not pay for another brand-new copy. This kind of "too bad, so sad" response has the prospect of generating customer bad will. Another example of the licensing issue appeared when I was working for the state. I needed to have eight PC's on a network running Window-Eyes. As long as I didn't run them all with WE at the same time, I only needed one copy. With an install limitation via JAWS, the state would have had to pay out more money, a disincentive for hiring us. Just my thoughts.--Matthew Chao On 5/15/2017 11:47 AM, Joseph Norton via Talk wrote: > You don’t even have to uninstall Window-Eyes. It will happily co-exist with > Jaws.
