Lots of true things in what you say. Unfortunately the official
release of v5 [as before with every other major official release
version] was so premature that the remaining [active] users of TB
might be a tad offended. Many have reported severe bugs, which are
still in a program version SOLD to unsuspecting folks.

We need not wade too deep into marketing waters to see that there is a
problem: finding a well-featured mail client which shows ghost
messages, crashes frequently, produces AVs and Exceptions regularly,
does not filter correctly ... in short, does not handle the basics of
a mail client is not persuasive to shell out money.

E-mail is increasingly shifting toward Web/cloud services, from
Facebook messages to Twitter, Web mailers like Google, smartphones. A
desktop client is not a necessity anymore, it is a luxury. I am still
on POP3 for essentially one reason, The Bat!, sadly the reasons I want
to use it dwindle as the very features I want to use don't do their
job.

I recommended TB for years to private and business contacts, without
them paying me to help with setting it up. It was for sheer
enthusiasm. Last year I was called in by a client to help set up his
new computer. I thought about recommending TB, setting it up, as I
think it would increase his productivity. Well, in a first round, for
historical reasons, we went with Thunderbird, which I find ... [put in
expletive of choice]. After a few months we decided to change to
Outlook ...

I cannot recommend TB! anymore because it does not enhance
productivity anymore. It hinders it. For instance, I have to start the
program two times when I run it the first time because some message
stays in the Mail Ticker although it is marked read and deleted. That
is not just annoying. And filters, and View Modes, the dreaded
TMailHandler Released Before ...
