This is not the condition that I have been describing. As Allie
explained, I am talking only about "manual checks that are triggered
by selecting the specific account to be checked via the little drop
down list on the 'Receive New Mail' toolbar button".

Thomas, you indicated that you have 13 accounts. Therefore, you should
be able to reproduce the behavior (bug) that I am describing without
difficulty.
