I think that it sounds extremely difficult to create a universal hook.
There are so many conditions and variations that trying to learn how
to configure the hook will be harder than just learning the "new"
editor.

However, even now there is a limited ability to use an external
editor.  All that needs to be done is whenever one wants to type a
message, one just has to use their favourite ASCII editor and create a
file.  Save the file as a common file name (I'll be original and call
it message.txt).  Then configure The Bat's Templates to have the macro
%INCLUDE="message.txt"  When you're done editing your message, just
create a new message in the Bat, and sure as can be, your message will
be imported.  Of course, the limitation is that The Bat! can't send
out text to the other editor, so I'll leave it to others to suggest a
more practical work around for replies.
