Anyway, enough of my evangelism of the 'right' way.
Just some real useful information:
Some may prefer not replying with nested responses because of the
tedium of having to reformat the quoted material when it's fragmented.
Well, one of the reasons why I so love this editor is that the
shortcut bound text reformat routines lend themselves to the creation
of some very effective and time saving macros.
Right now, if I wish to split up a quoted paragraph, I just place the
cursor at the point where I wish the paragraph to be split up, type
';d' and the paragraph is split in two, separated by three blank
lines, the fragments re-flowed to my editor settings, and the cursor
finally placed in the second of the three separating blank lines. All
in one swoop. It happens in an instant here as well. I'm now ready to
type my response.
If I wish to insert a response between two paragraphs, I just place
the cursor between the two paragraphs and type ';s'. The paragraphs
are then reflowed, the paragraphs further separated by an additional
two extra lines and the cursor placed at the beginning of the second
of those lines. I'm now ready to enter text.
I do this with the freeware macro tool called PowerPro. I also use it
to remap keybboard shortcuts and create other macros which saves me a
lot of highly repetative and time wasting actions. I'd recommend a
macro based utility to anyone. There are many. PowerPro has a great
price .. it's free and it's really powerful. Another that I've used to
successfully pull of these formatting routines is AIMKeys. More user
friendly but less powerful than PowerPro.
If you're against installing one of these Macro Utilities (there are
others but I just haven't used them), then it's your lost efficiency.
:-) Don't worry about interactions either, these macros can be
configured to work only in specific application windows.
Anyway, I'm sure there are PowerPro users on the list. The macros are
as follows. Note that you may have to make adjustments if your system
is slower than my 1.2Ghz Pentium here, i.e., insert some time delays
between the steps. I doubt this though. These will also only work if
autoformat is disabled. If it's enabled then you'll have to change the
macro. If you're interested I could help. You can use whatever
shortcut you wish but one that is executed by typing text is better.
For splitting up the quoted paragraph use:
^+f{w1}.{back}{en}{en}{en}{en}%l{up}{up}{w1}^+f
For separating and reflowing two quoted paragraphs:
^+f{w1}{left}.{back}{home}{down}{down}{en}{en}%l{up}{up}{w1}^+f
Enjoy!
