What I'd like to see, though, is a mail client that would automatically
download messages for which you already have sorting rules, and pop up
the Mail Dispatcher or equivalent only if it couldn't find an
applicable rule. This seems like the simplest and most obvious
solution, so why has no one implemented it?

If it's possible to do this in The Bat! or other existing program, I'd
love to hear about it.
