Hello Mary,

MB>>> I think if you were there, you would soon have the attention of
MB>>> 9Val or Stefan.

you're absolute right :) but when even Alexander has no clue what the source of
such a behaviour can be, then maybe its really something which no one knows and
I have to bear with :)

AA>> Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately i already posted the
AA>> question here, and cross posting is not nice

MB> I think in this one instance, cross-posting would be forgiven, because
MB> you are praising v. 3.x so, when others took a very disparaging
MB> attitude.

To be honest when the 3.0 came out i was also very disappointed with ritlabs and
even more with the Bat itself, because this official 3.0 was in fact a buggy
beta for me and had error over errors, so that it crashes really so often that
it was a shame. So that i decided to switch to Thunderbird. But after giving the
bat another change and trying the 3.0.1. RC1, I changed my mind because this
release was more stable, in fact the most stable since very long time and for me
was that the reason for buy the V3. Since then the releases getting better and
better and now i look forward what comes out of the bat cave.

1 Year ago if someone ask me what to use for a mail program, the answer would
always be 'the bat'. But since 6 Month it was getting really buggy and I can
understand the people which are a little irritated of the changing from V2 to V3
when the last V2 are so unstable. But now i think that ritlabs is on a good way
and hope that they keep up the good work and encourage all user of V2 to switch.
-Not because of the new features, but because its more stable (at least for me).

But if someone ask me now which email client to use for business/home, i think i
will wait a little, before I continue to suggest the bat, just in case that it
get again a little buggy and unstable.- But that surely never happens :)

MB> You won my heart immediately with that.

I hope that everyone on this list still loves the bat, even when they are a bit
angry and maybe time will heal they're wounds and one after another begin to open
the heart to V3 ;)

MB> I am a completely non-technical person--everything I know about
MB> computers that is useful, I have learned on TB! lists.

Then you have learned a lot :) Maybe her is the best place to learn good things
about how to use a computer. I know people which i not even would suggest a
program such powerful as the bat, just because they have no interest in learning
new things. And as long as you have a wonder for new things, your surely will
learn fast :)

MB> I first ran The
MB> Bat! on Win95, on a 2.99 GB HD, with 32 MB of RAM.

Hey, in that case you started earlyer than I with the bat ;) After my old Amiga
4000/40 with 25 Mhz. was really a little outnumbered by pc i bought my first pc
with a 6GB HD, Win98 and 128MB ram and after some time i found out how great the
bat was :)

The funny thing is that i was unsure if i should buy a pc or mac and in the end
the reason for buy a pc, was the game half-life ;)

MB> Even now, I would not try to deal with partitioning. :(

That can be a really pain :)

I heard from people which are really skilled and the are not able to install a
linux partition :)

But i think today you only have to try it! And with the right tools you can make
it whiteout to much troubles. Even the modern linux installation should be safe
and run on most system whiteout screw up something - But as always in life
there's a little risk in it :) - you remember the subject of my post.

But when you are so interest in learning new things, then you surely make the
new partition whiteout an error or problem and not screw it up, like myself when
i was trying to to it for the first time and killed all the data on it :) - and
even in case that this happens nowadays are so good tools available which makes
restoring of data easy. - But I'm sure you don't need it ;)

MB> The thing is, that a lot of the best people--Alexander S. Kunz's peers
MB> and better, the Bat's programmers themselves--are right now reading
MB> only tbbeta, so far as I can tell.

MB> The list is somewhat slow right now. Go ahead and cross-post. Tell
MB> them Trill sent you. :)

Maybe it was just luck, or i have an guardian angel but it seems that the cross
post is not longer necessary ;)

MB> It's a problem with getting 3.x properly installed. I don't think it's
MB> off-topic too far for the beta list. Start out with your praise of
MB> 3.0. It was music to my ears.

Hey V3.0.1 is really good! That will everyone see, which open his eyes ;)

But for my bug with the V3 - maybe this bug occurs when i had the 1.x version
and something write something which it should not. And if so then i think its
not a real subjects for the beta list, because not much people uses they're mail
folders that long and I and I'm sure on the beta list the have better things to
fix :)

-But thanks again for the suggestion, next time i will remember it ;)

Have a great time
adrian
