It's a shame you are encountering issues with NOD32; I have installed on dozens
of systems across several OS platforms without issue. It's my Antivirus of
choice and of recommendation to anyone/everyone!
Maybe you could try the new 'Beta'
version which offers enhancements to HTTP scanning especially in the area of
browser deliver malware.
You mentioned you have had other AV software packages installed, it may be worth
checking there are no elements left behind which have not cleanly uninstalled
therein preventing NOD32 from starting.
