I view it the same way. A yes-person is probably cheaper and easier, as long as the boss is infallible. If we all flatter each other, truth will die, and then the boss will be left saying "But why didn't anyone tell me this was a terrible idea?"
Of course, if the boss doesn't admit criticism, the name of the game is CYA. Document what you suggested and how it was rebuffed.
