I have an informational site mostly aimed at engineers, and in the  "tech 
writing for engineers" section, it says (sort of tongue-in-cheek):
 
" In the event of conflicting information between this  web site and your 
boss, you should probably agree with whoever is paying you  more. It is OK to 
be 
wrong, so long as you know you are wrong, you are  consistently wrong, and you 
are getting paid to be wrong. "
 
I would add that for me as a consultant, the client is paying for my  
expertise so it is important that I express my opinion, and I usually do it  in 
writing.  If the client or boss chooses to ignore it, well, that's out  of my 
control.
