One problem that often crops up with sold-off old copies of proprietary
software is that they might be selling you the CD/DVD and manual for version
6, but they are using their upgrade to version 7, which (say) Adobe
considers to be the same license. 

Not sure who gets into trouble there, when you forget to disable the
phone-home features of the program and it reports itself as being installed
in two locations.

Can PhotoShop do important stuff that The GIMP can't do?
Price of The GIMP is very low...   :-)
Works on multiple platforms at that same low price.
