My service at home is excellent, but it's through the local telephone company. I have nothing but good to say about them.
*Begin Rant * I deal directly with them for DirectTV goes to school. It's still at least a 30 minute wait to talk to someone. Sometimes a lot longer than 30 minutes. They did require me to get a subcontractor to do the dish install and run cables, but the receivers came through them. I've been having problems with a receiver and haven't been able to get through to them. Fortunately a customer service rep emailed me to see how we were enjoying the free service and I unloaded on her. It's getting me a new receiver quicker, but hasn't done squat for the customer service. I don't care who you are or how big your company is, there should never be that kind of a wait for customer service, you should be able to talk to a human rather than a machine, and that human should be sitting in this country and not farmed out to who knows where. It sucks when that kind of garbage happens. I had the same problems with Wild Blue. I didn't get a foreign tech support person, but I got the guy that invented satellite internet or said he did. He was about as helpful as a hog with a saddle and got Wild Blue fired. *end rant* From: tech-geeks-boun...@tech-geeks.org [mailto:tech-geeks-boun...@tech-geeks.org] On Behalf Of Mike Oliveri Sent: Monday, October 18, 2010 11:53 AM To: Tech-Geeks Mailing List Subject: Re: [tech-geeks] OT - Vent That's the problem -- while they have DirecTV branding on the vans, etc., it's still 100% dependent upon local subcontractors. There aren't always a lot of options for them to choose from. Mike On Oct 18, 2010, at 11:13 AM, Jason Livezey wrote: The DirectTV installers must really stink in your area. I moved and had everything reinstalled within a week, upgraded to HD a year ago and again install done pretty quickly and on time. I agree though. Their voice prompt system sucks and you can never talk to a live person anymore.... I've waited three weeks for a certain satellite company (cough Direct TV)... The big day was here today, I had taken a half day off work and was waiting for my installers when I get the dreaded call. An automated call no less asking me to reschedule on the next available date two weeks from now. I'm obviously a little angry so I wait 30 minutes to get to an actual human. The poor customer service lady passes me on to a supervisor who begins to tell me my local office doesn't have any HD receivers available at this time but they will credit me $50 for me inconvenience. At this point I'm fuming. I've already waited three weeks, I've taken half a day off work, and now I have to wait another two at least and take more time off work. I simply ask can't you just come out, install the dish with a regular receiver, and then come back when the HD receivers when they come in. Her response was no we cannot send a technician out to your house twice. Seriously? At which point I said cancel my entire order, which she did and says have a great day. I was blown away.
