The original request was to go the opposite direction (Gmail to
exchange).  The direction you are talking about has gotten a lot
better, but only if you use the Google Uploader:

Friends that work on the consulting team that migrates big sites tell
me they have refined the software over the last year or two and it
works very smoothly now.

But the question was about the other direction so I'll stop there.
