Dane, the problem you're going to run into is that the folks (at least in the us) won't give permission for daisy reading things anymore. Last convention I went to several years ago, I'd asked about getting permission to create a daisy reader product, and was told they have no interest in having anyone else make daisy products, because they have enough. This to me just seems backwards, but it's typical of business. Folks are of course free to build opensource daisy reading devices (I've considered doing it with the propeller boards I have here from parallax) but the whole encrypted content thing would be unsupported, because the powers at be refuse to release information on how to decrypt the daisy content. My guess is that they don't want such information in opensource products, because then anyone anywhere could build their own player, and bypass the rediculous prices they're charging for such here in the us. Admittedly, it's not impossible to get keys for devices free, but it isn't exactly easy either, and those devices have to be supported ones such as humanware, or nls devices. In general, if it's encrypted daisy content, then forget it, unless you're a client of nls or (in some cases) rfb&d, you're out of luck. To me, this just seems silly, but history is full of similar events, so it doesn't surprise me in the least. The basic daisy format is perfectly usable by anyone, (it's an iso or rfc or something, which is available to anyone to use, but the whole encrypted portion is restricted to only certain circles, and the average user who wants to build their own device is not allowed into those circles.
