I ran System Update on a T43 and chose some of the optional updates available, among them updating the embedded controller. When System Update was ready to install the embedded controller, it gave the usual warning to close all open programs, which I did, and that the system would power off and then restart, which it did. When the installer opened, I selected #1 - Read This, and then #2 - to begin the update. At that point the fan started up and a window appeared showing:

        Now updating
System will turn off when finished.
It may take about 30 seconds
Do not to turn off the computer during the update.

The only problem is that the system never turned off, even after 30 minutes. That screen is still up, and doesn't respond to the Enter, Esc or F1 keys. The only other key option is F3=Exit.

Has anyone had the EC update either freeze during installation or fail to install? What's likely to happen if I force shutdown?
