Requirements vary; mine are flying/travel machines so I sought the lowest idle power SSD in the 128Gb class yielding longest battery life.

The Kingston V+100 drives seem to fill that bill and at an attractive price point.

There are certainly faster SLC and more expensive drives, but MLC are fine for my application.

Is there a "sweet spot" hard drive anybody might suggest?

I was planning on stepping up to SSD for the X220, but I'm a bit
reluctant to put an SSD in the older X61s.

I have 100GB/7200rpm drive in now, but a somewhat recent interest in
photography has chewed through a decent chunk of my capacity. Are
there any particular drives that I should most closely consider?

Thanks again, -Scott

Yes, only 3Gb addressable in 32bit, though I have given thought how to

Is your RAM then maxed out at 3GB? (ie, unless you were to switch over

Apart from the fact that you can't run 64bit Win7 because you need to
support particular applications, the x61s otherwise generally supports
64bit Win7?

If you were running 64bit Win7, could the X61s support, say, 8GB?

Haven't gone to 64-bit due to some program incompatibility.

Hi all,

I recently purchased an X220 to replace my X61s, but there seems to be
an ongoing problem with the IPS displays and Lenovo doesn't quite seem
to know what to do about it (my X220 has been sitting at ezserv for
over 3 weeks).

So, now I'm thinking about just upgrading the RAM (currently 2GB)
and/or drive (currently 100GB/7200rpm) and possibly the OS in my X61s.

Right now it's running 32bit Vista (yes, I know, everybody hates
Vista) -- but I don't have an extra copy of XP or Win7. I was planning
on switching to 64bit Win7 with the X220, but now it's in limbo.

Perhaps my first question should be: is 64bit Win7 a good match for an
X61s?

Thanks! -Scott
