Thanks for the suggestions. The X220 worked okay for a while and then eventually
I had to turn it off or hibernate (I forget). After I did that, when I tried to
turn it on it wouldn't respond. I'd press the power button, the fingerprint
reader light would go off, the power button would blink, and it would sit. It's
possible the fan would start to spin and then stop. Then the fingerprint reader
light would go on again and it would sit patiently waiting.

Really lucky, I bought an extra 2 years NBD last week (on the last day of
factory warranty!). Called and someone's coming Wednesday (I can't be here
Tuesday). Phone agent thinks it system board, I also got an off-list reply
suggesting it might be the HD. I'm hoping it continues to fail on Wednesday.

I'm going to bite the bullet and order an SSD today, in case Lenovo don't change
the HD. They've come down a lot since I posted a few months ago about upgrading
(at the time I decided to do nothing, couldn't decide between a small mSATA for
hibernation/boot and a replacement for the HD :).

Cheapest I've noticed recently was a 1-day Newegg special of U$190 on a Samsung
256GB. Since that 1 day wasn't today :) it's not an option.

I have a narrow window to order something from Amazon Prime and get it delivered
to US this Wednesday. I'm thinking of getting a Crucial M4 which was recommended
and has great ratings (minimum 256GB because I'm coming off a 250GB HD). My
options from Amazon Prime are: 256GB=U$204 or 512GB=U$399 for the CT###M4SSD2,
or 256GB=U$219 for CT256M4SSD1.

Is there a difference between D1 and D2? I can't see one but the specs are not
presented consistently on Amazon.

I'll probably need a data transfer kit, they have one from Apricorn for U$19, or
I can get a Crucial bundle (256GB=U$223 for CT256M4SSD2CCA, don't see others but
that's U$19 for the cable and CD). Don't see bundle in 512GB or D1 from Amazon,
so if those are the choice I'll go with Apricorn (okay?).

I have about 40-60GB free on the HD (so haven't been too aggressive it keeping
it down), I'm wondering if the 256GB would be big enough. I know prices will
drop, but if I buy 256GB for $204 now and need more, the 512GB will have to drop
from today's $400 to $200 or less to have been worth it.

FWIW, FutureShop has the 256GB(D2)=C$210, 256GB(D2CCA)=C$220, 512GB(D2)=C$500
(512 out of stock). Online only it says, but surprisingly competitive on 256GB.
I might or might not have to pay the 13% HST (sales tax) which would make FS
very appealing (domestic vendor in case of issues) unfortunately that tax will
be based on a business decision I'll make in October 2012. So I'm planning to go
with Amazon Prime. Have about 4 hours to order.
Alternatively, the Sandisk Extreme is stated in one of the Amazon Crucial images
as even faster than M4, 240GB (SDSSDX-240G-G25) = U$207, 480GB (SDSSDX-480G-G25)
= U$435, does anyone recommend this over the Crucial M4?

Sorry for the disjointed wording of this email, I'm writing it on the web
interface.

Thanks!
