If you have the ultrabase for your X220, by far the best way of doing the 
transfer is using an ultrabay HD adapter: put the old drive in the ultrabay, 
the new one in the machine, boot from the ultrabay, etc.  The ultrabay SATA 
adapters that sell on eBay for under $10 work well.

Because of this tradeoff, we just upgraded my son's machine with a hybrid 
(Seagate Momentus) instead of a full SSD.  It is not as fast as the SSD on 
my machine, but still much faster than a regular disk.  There's a review

(note that the velociraptor with which they are favorably comparing it is a 
10,000 rpm desktop drive).

Don't forget to check the warranty.  Part of my decision to go with an Intel 
SSD on my machine was the 5 year warranty.
