In the end I went with a 256GB Crucial M4 (and Crucial confirmed
D1=7mm, D2=9mm). I also bought an Apricorn cable and CD kit, instead
of the USB 2.0 ($19-$5MIR) I went with the USB 3.0 ($30-$10MIR).

I don't know if the cloning software checks for an Apricorn cable, if
not I guess any cheap direct-from-HK cable would work. I take your
point about the Ultrabase, but I had a limited window to get something
shipped to US and brought home, so I went this way. Since I'm only
doing the clone now it may not have been worth it but I hoped to get
to it sooner. It took about 45min to clone (not validation) using the
USB 3.0 cable.

I think the Crucial M4 has a 3yr warranty and I'm hoping that's
enough. We do keep our machines a long time, but OTOH it may get
bumped up to 512GB in a couple of years. I have to admit I was tempted
by the 1TB HD that Crucial kept presenting for $129. :)

Thanks again.
