Hello, A "good" USB 2.0 flash drive might have a write speed of 10-15MB/s, while a 2.5" hard disk might operate at 60-75MB/s, so moving the paging file would probably result in further performance slow down when it was most needed.
Are you looking to free up disk space? It seems that 320GB 2.5" hard disk drives with PATA interfaces are still made by Western Digital. I think one of those would work in your T43(?). Another option might be to try a PATA SSD like one of these: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Mercury_Legacy_Pro I would suggest checking with that company to verify compatibility and check if there are any issues with your particular model of ThinkPad and OS before making a purchase, though. I am not sure how well older operating systems will work due to changes in sector sizes: Most SSDs and recent HDDs use 4KB-long sectors instead of the 512-byte long ones used by Windows XP and older versions of Windows.
