Just got my Thunderbird 3.1.9 set up with Yahoo. Manually set it up
on Thunderbird, without any plugins.

To manually set up, go to set up a new Thunderbird account go to
TOOLS - ACCOUNT SETTINGS - ACCOUNT ACTIONS - ADD MAIL ACCOUNT

Then enter your name and then use the e-mail address [email protected]. ignore
the password and press Continue

When Thunderbird is trying to get the settings automatically press
Stop a couple of time until it offers you the option of Manual Setup.
You should then find that Thunderbird has set up a new account for
which you can maually set the appropriate server setiings.

The server settings that worked for me are :-

Incoming Server
Server type - POP
User name - your user name on btinternet
Server name - mail.btinternet.com
Port - 110
Connection security - None - (both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS failed to
connect)
Authentication method - Password transmitted insecurely - (does not
accept encryption)

Outgoing Server
Description - anything
Server name - mail.btinternet.com
Port - 465
Connection security - SSL/TLS
Authentication method - normal password
User name - your e-mail address

Set up all of the other options appropriately. Don't forget to re-
enter your correct e-mail address in the main account settings screen.

Hope this helps.
