Ronzilla appears to be using the mail servers provided by his ISP, BT
Internet. As such, he isn't using any webmail extensions, and his
solution will only work for BT Internet customers.

I think it most unlikely that your suggestion of the use of a secure
port connection outbound will work when you actually try to send
email. The Webmail add-ons do not work with secure connections and
there is no need for them to do so since the connection from
Thunderbird to the add-on (acting as the server) is entirely within
your own computer and does not need a secure connection.
Users of the Webmail add-on are well advised (for Windows systems) to
use the default settings outbound (port 25) and "None" as the security
setting. The add-on uses the security settings provided to you in the
direct Web interface. This is effectively the exact same settings you
would be getting if you sent email via the Web interface ... which is
what the add-on is doing on your behalf.

Just got my Thunderbird 3.1.9 set up with Yahoo. Manually set it up
on Thunderbird, without any plugins.
To manually set up, go to set up a new Thunderbird account go to
TOOLS - ACCOUNT SETTINGS - ACCOUNT ACTIONS - ADD MAIL ACCOUNT
Then enter your name and then use the e-mail address [email protected]. ignore
the password and press Continue
When Thunderbird is trying to get the settings automatically press
Stop a couple of time until it offers you the option of Manual Setup.
You should then find that Thunderbird has set up a new account for
which you can maually set the appropriate server setiings.
The server settings that worked for me are :-
Incoming Server
Server type - POP
User name - your user name on btinternet
Server name - mail.btinternet.com
Port - 110
Connection security - None - (both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS failed to
connect)
Authentication method - Password transmitted insecurely - (does not
accept encryption)
Outgoing Server
Description - anything
Server name - mail.btinternet.com
Port - 465
Connection security - SSL/TLS
Authentication method - normal password
User name - your e-mail address
Set up all of the other options appropriately. Don't forget to re-
enter your correct e-mail address in the main account settings screen.
Hope this helps.
