In fact, this from the BT Internet website, "3. Can I access my BT
Yahoo! Mail anywhere? ...your email account from any Internet
connection, such as an Internet café or a wireless hotspot. Log in to
your email at www.bt.yahoo.com/webmail using your btinternet email
address and password. remotely, accessing BT Yahoo!, email Broadband,
Email, Setting up your email program." explains it.
BT customers like Ron can access their mail anywhere using Yahoo, when
at home however they can use BT's own servers.

I think BT Internet uses Yahoo to give their customers web access to
their mail. This is probably the cause of the confusion.

It is not entirely clear why ronzilla posted on this thread. In the
setup for incoming mail is says to use a btinternet mail mail server
and "your user name on btinternet" and about the same for outbound.
It seems that ronzilla has simply reported to us that a btinternet
mail account has been setup successfully on Thunderbird. I cannot see
what it has to do with Yahoo or with the Webmail add-on. Perhaps
ronzilla will help us understand the connection to Yahoo mail..

I'm sure they do, but only other BT Internet subscribers will be
able to
use those settings.

Just a note to let you know that sending and receiving mail both work
with the settings I use. I've checked them both.
