I think the issue here is whether the complexity of the WikiText for providing needed attributes to a parser could get so complex its no more efficient than directly entering the HTML. WikiText is readable shorthand that should follow a consistent patterning. This also makes coding for varying tags pretty complex--which [[site|target-address]] pretty much handles already?
