1) is not affecting all applications as it seemed before (I have tried 
so many combos of viewers/servers, I don't remember now). Since you 
mentioned firefox, I just tried and it worked. I could copy from client 
to server with selection and middle click.

But 1) affects one of my favorite apps: gvim.

2) is definitely there.
