As Joel points out, what tends to be much more important is network
topologically close connections, and continent/country/timezone groups
are very crude approximations.

I also disagree that making it easy for simple configurations should
have a lower priority.


Keeping things simple is one of the main goals of the NTP pool
project!


As far as I can see, the major point of "priority 2" *is* a simple
configuration.  Most people know what country they are in, and that
makes configuring to use the pool easier.

On the other hand, having the right timezone configured for their
computer is probably more important to most people than having their
clocks set to within a minute.  Timezone setup is part of almost all
OS configuration processes and is easily available to most programs.
Timezones are generally match up with national boundaries when those
boundaries are important.


Keeping things simple, making things easy to configure correctly, and
make it easy to check to see that things are configured correctly are
all very important.
