Namaste, I have been contributing to the Chinese translations on Launchpad during the past few weeks. The problem I am facing is that quite a few of the English terms seem non standard, awkward, sometimes ambiguous or even not correct (see examples below), making them hard to translate. I find that really a pity. OpenERP is a wonderful system but the English used in the interface and also the documentation (referred to on the website as documentations) makes it sometimes appear amateurish to an outsider and will in my view have quite a negative impact on its adoption rate.
I would propose first an overhaul of the English terms used in the interface. The documentation could then be changed to reflect these new terms (while also correcting other mistakes). Perhaps one way of doing it is to introduce an Original English Terms to Proposed English Terms "translation" file for each module in Launchpad, so that everybody can contribute. Once the translation or improvements have stabilized the improved terms can then be used as the basis for all other translation files. Cheers! Some examples of non standard/awkard/ambiguous/incorrect terms with suggestions for improvements: Packing list: Pick List would be a better term (see this post (http://www.openerp.com/forum/topic4535.html?highlight=pick%20list%20picking%20packing&sid=848dcf67bdcf4f25f12d0cea6d00f791)) Packing: "Picking" seemst to be meant most of the times. Procurement: Translated to "Purchase (éè´)" in the Chinese translations I've seen. Perhaps "Requisition" is better. It precedes a Purchasing Order or a Production Order and therefore does not always result in a purchase. Service Product: "Service" suffices. An output is either a Service or a Product. Account Move: "Ledger Posting" Move Lines: "Entry lines" Entries Encoding: "Making Entries" or "Posting Entries" Encode manually statement comes into the draft statement: Probably means something like "A statement with manual entries becomes a draft statement"? Futur: "Future" Softwares: "Software" -------------------- m2f -------------------- -- http://www.openobject.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=45867#45867 -------------------- m2f --------------------
