Payam, I don't have any preconceived notions about you. I don't know who
you are, although I would like to. I am just pointing out that when we
communicate we do so with about 7% in words and about 93% in body
language, vocal tones, facial expressions, etc. And, the essence of
communication is listening, not talking. So, when I ask if you listen to
the students body language, vocal tones, facial expressions, actions; when
I ask if you see and not merely look; when I ask if you listen and not
merely hear, I offer no judgement or recrimination. Just awareness
thathere is a difference between writing or uttering words, and living
them. My syllabus, and you're welcome to a copy, has close similarities
to yours. I have discovered that there is a vast difference between my
saying, "I love students" and being loved by students. The mark of a
teacher is in the latter, not the former. I am just bringing to your
attention what I learned: the difference between saying I care about
students and students feeling I care about them.
Make it a good day.
