Ah, A Christmas mystery. I love it. My wife, who has forgotten more languages than most people know, did a quick translation of the French text. It reads: To our French friends: It´s possible that you will guess the range of this Dutch message. The point is to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. We will only come to France in February or March, alas, so the wishes are a little less personal. The traditional recipe is simple: a puree of potatoes and celeriac. When we meet I will try to translate. Be assured of our best wishes and feelings towards you and yours. Hans and Gerdie ------------------ You may not have noticed that the message included a pdf attachment. It contains what appears to be an acrostic poem in Dutch. My guess is that this refers to the recipe mentioned in the letter. The title of the document, "Recept voor de puree van twee knollen" translates (using Beth's site) to "Recipes for the puree of two squeezed". Squeezed what, it doesn't say. I imagine this is a Christmas greeting to a mailing list which accidentally included the TIPS address. The sender probably is a member of TIPS, unknown to us because he has never posted a message.
