Once upon a time rtesdall shaped the electrons to say... > Has anyone had success using a Linksys PAP2 adapter and the TiVo Series > 2 DVR?
Well, it supports fax so it *may* support the TiVo's modem. But why would you want to use this? You have broadband, put the TiVo on a network. > As I understand all the TiVo's manufactured by TiVo are shipping > with the 5.x series OS and you need the 7.x series to use a network > connection. Is there any way of getting a TiVo that already has the > latest OS on it? Thanks for your help. All TiVos have been manufactured with 7.x for a couple of months now. There is mixed stock in the retail channel - pre-7.x and 7.x. You can tell the difference from the box: http://www.tivolovers.com/245593.html There isn't a way to tell when ordering online. Network connections have been supported since 4.0, it is just that each release has added to the list of supported adapters. So you may need a newer release to use some of the adapters. For example, the new TiVo-branded 11g WiFi adapter requires 7.2 to work. Guided Setup over the network was added in 7.2, eliminating the phone line requirement for the initial setup. But even if you have pre-7.2 you can always take the box somewhere with a phone line and do the initial calls there, get the unit to upgrade, and then bring it home. If you're going to use WiFi, as opposed to Wired Ethernet, I would recommend using the TiVo-branded 11g adapter available on their website. Finding a compatible adapter at retail is a pain, and none of them will perform as well as the TiVo adapter since TiVo designed it just for their boxes and it offloads work from the CPU. -MZ -- <URL:mailto:megazoneatmegazone.org> Gweep, Discordian, Author, Engineer, me.
