See my later messages. I don't think it's necessary to do this because
TMDA has other methods of insuring fault tolerance in the event of an
initial filename collision.

I also don't think strict adherence to the Maildir spec is
necessary. pending will still be ``Maildir-compatible'', so it can be
manipulated by software that supports Maildir. This is what's
important.

We're free to choose whatever format we want for pending, as long as
it remains reliable, and I think it will.
