Many thanks for all your help guys - am a happy camper again! After many, many hours the Touch as finally settled down and has been working over 12hrs without any hiccup. Can swap to different sources, like music server (which BTW was the only thing that always worked!), over to internet radio, to attached USB HHD, or USB Flash drive - without missing or throwing up an error, or worse, crashing.
Must admit that I have given up trying to figure out why the in-build SBS would intermittently come up with 'Local music server has been stopped due to a problem' when I used the SDHC card as music source. Will probably try again when I've got lost of spare time and am in mood for it. :-) Here is what I've learned from all of this (or things I have to do to make it work!) * Changed/added new WiFi router (Gave Touch a WiFi router just for itself! nothing else connected to it. Note: the Touch is very selfish and picky on this!!) * Changed WiFi IP address from dhcp to static in Touch. * Attach a USB HDD always through a self-powered USB hub. (Even when I know the USB HDD works without external power perfectly fine on all my other PC and laptops.) 4) only use a newly formatted HDD drive (HDD or Flash) with only the bare essential files (music and album cover art) copied to it. (Was a good opportunity to clean/check all my files, corrupt files will hang the first scan process.) 5) Don't ever fill the USB drive, leave space for the built in SBS to write files to it. 6) When attaching a USB drive just be patient! Let the Touch scan it and do its thing until it has completed its first full scan and process cycle. This can take a very long time, especially when there are thousand and thousands of music files to scan. 7) Don't use a SD or SDHC card for my music files. Use it for slideshow images only. 8) If I want to use the SD card for my slideshow images insert it last. Let the Touch scan the USB drive and complete the process, only then insert the SD with the images. (Don't forget to then change the settings to point it to the correct device for the slideshow images after!). Sticking to these points and it works a treat! And I must say, when it works it works really, *really* well! Very good sound quality - only use digital out, so cant't speak for analogue. Once again, thank you very much for your help. As I said, I'm a very happy camper again!
