I think you have just listed your own problem. I would bet a dime to a
donut that its the FreeAgent USB drive. They like to go to sleep. If it
were me, I would eject the FreeAgent and plug it into a PC. Then I would
check the settings and disable spin down/sleep mode. Actually if it were
really me, I would go out and buy one of the Toshiba USB powered USB
drives. I have been using the Toshibas problem free for over 9 months
now with TinySC.

I have a large FreeAgent external powered USB drive and had to disable
the spin down to get it to play nice with the Touch. Haven't had issue
one since then when using it with the Touch.

Worth a shot, and if no joy, one can always buy a Toshiba.
