With the server using SQLite, the size of the library may be relevant if a lot of data such as database indexes are held in memory. The file format should be relevant only to what can be played on the Touch and on attached players due to the embedded server's lack of transcoding. It shouldn't have anything to do with crashing, or the ability to scan the library.
