If you search these forums, you'll see my writeup on how to install
plugins on the embedded server in Touch which I think we've all noted
*is not supported by Logitech*. Installing plugins on Touch is nearly
identical to what you would have done to install them on a headless
Linux server for versions 7.2 and earlier of the software (before
Adrian wrote the very easy to use web interface for installing
plugins).

nepalchris, I would advise that you *not* install any plugins on Touch
for the first couple of months (if ever). I expect that TrackStat in
particular will be problematic both in terms of needing more resources
than Touch can provide and flat out not working (TinySBS on Touch uses
a different database backend than the normal "fat" SBS). If you try
installing plugins on Touch now, you're at much higher risk for
performance problems, random reboots, etc. If you really need plugins,
you should start with a separate full SBS server on a regular PC/Mac
machine.

Touch doesn't have a whole lot of memory -- its internal server was
originally intended only to allow Touch itself to play music plugged in
to the USB port or SD slot (can somebody with a retail unit quote the
language printed on the actual box?), but since Touch does have the
resources to do that and share the music with other players (even at
128 MB of RAM), Logitech decided to use the Squeezebox Server name.
>From what I've seen so far, that looks like a good decision -- there
just aren't that many people asking questions like this, on the forums
anyway.

One option open to Logitech was to pull a "Windows Phone" switch on us.
They could have broken completely from the "wide open",
developer-friendly past and made efforts to lock down Touch so that it
couldn't be patched, extended, or customized. Lots of companies seem to
be going that route -- just yesterday I was reading about the lengths to
which Archos has gone to lock down its Android-based Archos 5
movie/music player. It's crazy -- they have this portable unit that's
technically capable of installing & running thousands of Android apps,
but apparently they're trying to prevent that & hide the fact that it's
running Android.
