In my 14+ years with Stereophile, I have always written about the
products that interest me and I have never had any of my comments
altered or deleted by the Editor, stylistic and grammatical corrections
aside. In addition, I pay absolutely no attention to the ads or,
indeed, who advertises as I select products primarily from
seeing/hearing them at shows or showrooms, from Internet information
and forums, and from personal contacts and correspondence.

Also, I firmly resist offers or attempts of visits from manufacturers
as I prefer to set up equipment myself and I am fortunate in being able
to feed myself. The major exceptions are made when the size/weight of
the product(s) are beyond my abilities to manage them.

So, perhaps I cannot change your expectations but I do not think you
have hit on the reasons why Stereophile reviews may not be from the
same perspective that you have.

And, btw, I did not say that you were "way off base" but that you are
"mostly wrong," based on a quickie analysis of your three points. It
also means that you are somewhat right.
