You don't have this quite right. In journalistic endeavors, editorial
and business staffs are on the same side of the wall, it's news that's
on the other side.  In theory, to keep it objective and free from
interference. Newspaper/magazine editorials are subjective and often
reflect the views of management or the owners. 

Hobbyist-type magazines don't usually represent themselves as having
news content in a journalistic sense or to be free of biases. I don't
think there's necessarily an expectation or representation of
objectiveness in such magazines' product reviews.

They are inherently subjective. And, not infrequently, subject to
meddling from the business side. I'm not saying this is necessarily the
case with the specific pubs cited, but it is often the case.
