Maybe I just had my expectations set too high.
Here is what I want. A box with enough power to act as a true
controller. It can have a USB port for a HD or I can use a NAS. There
are advantages to both. Or even better a USB drive that can be updated
from my PC over the ethernet. One which is fully powered down when I am
not using the player.
Then I would like a remote control with a big enough screen and good
enough touch screen that allows me to see enough enough information and
allows me to zoom in and out easily (iPad?). I currently use a 12"
touchscreen HP laptop. But it does have not zooming capability and my
old eyes need that. I want pretty much instant on and not have all the
problems of a Windows based laptop, or at least mine, where it
sometimes takes forever to boot up and sometimes works smoothly.
Sometimes it will go to sleep very nicely and other times it will
decide to shutdown and then take minutes boot up. Then there is all the
bloatware I can't seem to fully purge. I will never, ever buy an HP
computer again :{. In other words I don't want a full computer anywhere
in the playback loop.
The Touch seemed to have that potential, but I quess they set their
sights lower.
And of course I want the versatility of the squeeze software, still my
favorite, when it works.
