Yes it takes work but the cables are cheap. Many people do wire up thier homes anyway, there are even tv's with ethernet not to mention bluray players and game consols and nmt's. So a modern HT or familly room setup migth have 5-6 networkable things. So putting a network switch there is not uncommon.
