That's why is suppose you do it the 24 bit domain or better floating point the 16 bit data in some frequencies can be shifted down so to speak the eventual s/n penalty comes when it's time DA again ? But the loss is not in the digital domain in the world of 24 bit data you have 144dB to toy with ( or 1500dB or somesuch with floating piont ) . And most DAC's are in practice 20-21 bits ( 24 bit ) ? You suppose if the record company had added 5 dB more bass the rest wold have sounded worse ? Given proper gain in the system it would not be problematic , many people are actually using the volume controll in the squeezebox to drive power amps ? With not practical loss in sq . I'm fully aware of that you can't have positive gain 0dB is the limit in digital , and that you have to reduce the rest if want to make one part louder but with 24 bit resolution I don't see a problem , at least not one that is worse than the sq losses in a analogue eq . Btw the volume controll in my system is digital and implemented in the speakers ( 24 bit ) and I do use tone controlls in the form of a slight " tilt " as my room is small and I'm to,close to the speakers ( they get bright ) so +1,5db in the bass -1,5db in the treble ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96776 _______________________________________________ Touch mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
