Lack of EQ is not the same as lack of sound quality ? they are separate
things  .

I never heard the WD TV either , but if that also is relatively low
noise low distorsion and flat response ,it should sound *very* similar
unless something is broken .
OP have read to much audiophile nonsense about day and night differences
in source components (sorry they don't exist unless something is broken
or EQ'd ) .
Small subtle improvements yes .

And it also depends on music taste and habit's if one likes EQ or not,
and it is a habit and the brain ear system gets used to really quick .

Try your system without EQ for 2 weeks to retrain the brain ?

B&W speakers are not that shoddy so that they need EQ normally ? is the
placement sub optimal , most B&W I've heard are ok never heard any one
need of excess EQ .

The amp does it have tone controls ,thats the place for them not i the
source component ( CD players or DVD player don't have EQ either )
