I'm not so sure. The OP realized that the Touch sounded the same as his,
sorry for not reading it up, WD? device.
Which is probably a correct observation.
SQ is 90% speakers, 9% amplifier, 0.9% DAC, 0.1% everything else.

So if your amp and speakers are the same, the DAC in the Touch would
have to be dramatically better to give any audible difference and you
need pretty good downstream equipment to even notice ANY difference.

CHANGE on the audio properties like volume, equalization etc, however,
is a very different story. Even if it essentially means a loss if
information, a compressed (dynamic range or data rate) sound may still
sound better to you than the unaltered sound.
I know how challenging mg bare-to-the-bones audio chain sounds to most
people....
