If you are asking "why bother converting from WAV to FLAC" or "why not transcode all audio formats to PCM"....
The answer is that there is no discernible audio difference. Ex: FLAC is "better" for networked audio because it requires (aprox) half the bandwidth to transmit vs WAV and FLAC handles tags & art better.
