SliMP3 supports only MP3. Squeezebox currently supports mp3, aif and pcm.
Squeezebox2 adds support for Flac and WMA.

As far as I know, the Touch is a superset of SB2.
None of the players take raw PCM - you need the file headers and tags
anyway.
