Meanwhile....only a few years later .....I 've just got a SBT. No Mods. Rather than router it to a PC I plugged in a Maxtor powered ext HDD. (500gig capacity; 100gig in use). First time it didn't seem to want to know. Then all I did was read these few pages and tried again.
SO the SBT set about scanning for a while and then worked just like a giant USB stick. Was really surprised ! Now ! in case there's anyone left to read this how do I make this reliable? I want to take it off and finetune the layout and tracks etc. There's sometimes 4 same headings for one album and only one will be functional etc. Then when I plug it back into the SB will it have to scan the whole thing again everytime or just check for changes ? I expect I have to go through the 'REmove USB' process. Do I remove USB when it says "OK" or do I have to press the next "GO" first that then goes back to a main menu and then remove ?
