I finally got some time to listen to the music on a decent sound system. I am looking at the following stuff http://www.box.net/shared/lbqx6709eq These are only my opinion, I'm sure other people have things to say. Lets start with the intro movie, intro1 * The music part is good * The explosion lasts for two long, it should be almost finished by the time the logo is zooming outwards * The pre-explosion bit needs something intro2 * Not really much different to intro1 * The explosion sounds a little better and is timed a bit better intro3 * I don't like the new explosion sound * The crackling sound is way to loud intro4 * I can't really tell much difference to intro3 intro5 * I think the fizziling sounds is okay, but it could use some "power". It sounds like a small fire, it should sound big. Maybe more bass? intro6 * This "gas lighter" sound is okay - but it starts to suddenly and loud. Maybe ramp the sound upwards ending in the explosion? Another option is to make the pause (in the video) before the explosion shorter and hence not need a sound. ------ G 5-2.mp3 I like the "plodding" bass sound which is the background of this piece. It is kind of relaxing. At the very beginning, there are some very very quiet synthesiser keys. It sounds better if you bump up the treble so they are not so quiet. I'm not to fond of the "gritty/sandy" sound to some of the stuff towards the end. I think it would go better with some more pure notes. I think it could be a little longer, it currently goes for ~2 minutes, I think you could easily extend it to around 3 minutes. The piece ends well and overall the tempo is good for background music. I also think that this could have a large number of "variations" all with the same background "plodding". Overall, very good for background music. --- G 8-2.mp3 As I have mentioned previously this reminds me of the building sounds in Dune 2. Again the background of this piece works really well. The long drawing sounds are quite relaxing. However, around 15-16 seconds another instrument starts playing, this sound seems to wander about and is a little unpleasant. The high pitch sounds work okay, but could use a slight softening. They are a little too sharp at the moment for background music. In it's current state I think many people would find this piece a little too intrusive for background music. I think the key is to soften the high pitch wines and to either remove or rework the other line which starts around 15-16 seconds. --- G 9-2.mp3 This one is pretty well done. It seems to be fairly similar to G 5-2 and the levels all seem pretty good. Overall, I can't see anything to change for this one. --- G 11.mp3 For battleviewer music, this just does not have enough tempo. I think you need to think faster, more intense and violent music. It is about getting the adrenaline pumping with excitement. Ships are blowing each other up, all weapons are firing and your ships are just holding out! Think any big battle scene from a movie. Think large scale, epic. Often it is done via large orchestral pieces, but other styles like heavy metal and even some hip-hop have similar qualities. --- Hope this helps!
