I believe the answer is no, you must use the power from the mount in order to 
enable the fleet management interface which causes the 350 to output location 
messages to the OT2 and receives POI data from the OT2.

Sorry for all the basic questions..just don't want to mess anything up.

The info I have read on this site says the Nuvi 350 must be powered externally 
in order to work with the FMI interface.

Can I use the side minib connector for both the data and power connection by 
making up a cable?  I dont have a powered mount for the nuvi.  The side 
connector is where I currently plug in the car charger/power connector.
